Japan Helps Rp 24 Billion for the Indigenous Peoples of Maluku

Indonesia-Government of Japan provided grant assistance of three million U.S. dollars, equivalent to about USD 24 billion to 250 indigenous communities in Indonesia. Assistance is granted for a period of three years, the main objective to increase the capacity of indigenous peoples.

Indigenous capacity building program with funding from Japan that was launched at the Congress of Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago-4 in Tobelo, North Halmahera, North Maluku, Sunday (04/22/2012). Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Government of Japan, Shigeru Ushio, and Senior Social Development Specialist for the World Bank in Indonesia, Juan Martinez. Shigeru said the grants provided by the Government of Japan comes from the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF), and will be managed by the World Bank. As for the implementation of the programs that come from funds left to the Indigenous Peoples' Alliance Archipelago.
