South Pole reached all-time high temperature record right on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011 last. At that time, according to data disclosed by the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the temperature reaches 9.9 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 12.3 degrees Celsius below zero.
Although the temperature was rather unusual to be called a temperature of 'hot' but that figure is the hottest temperature of the South Pole.
As an illustration, the coldest temperature in the region reached approximately -117 degrees Fahrenheit or -82.8 degrees Celsius. Temperature occurred on June 23, 1982.
In its official statement, says SSEC, record the previous hottest temperature in the Antarctic region occurred on December 27, 1978. At that time, the temperature reaches 7.5 degrees Fahrenheit or -13.6 degrees Celsius.
