PT PLN Develops Mini Hydro Plant
JAKARTA-State electricity company PT (Persero) to optimize the Mini Hydro Power Center (micro power plants) that use water as a source of energy. This is to reduce dependence on fuel oil for power plants.
Related to that, PLN is currently developing four units of micro power plants in Mamuju, West Sulawesi province. Four generating units with total capacity of 8.1 Mega Watt (MW), the micro power plants Balla (2 X 350 kilo Watt / kW), which has operations in 2011 and then, followed by micro power plants Kalukku (2 X 700 kW), which officially opened in mid- this April. Followed later, Hau Bone micro power plants (2 x 2000 kW) which will be operational by the end of this April, and micro power plants Budong-budong (2 x 1000 kW) in August 2012.
Operation of micro power plants in Mamuju Unit 4 above, is expected to reduce the use of 64 000 liters of fuel per day, equivalent to 21 million liters a year. "The potential value of savings to be gained PLN around Rp 200 billion per year," said Senior Manager of Corporate Communications PT PLN Bambang Dwiyanto, in a press release on Sunday (4/22/2012),in Jakarta. The value of this savings will have a significant influence in the operation of the electrical system more efficient in the region of Mamuju, West Sulawesi.
Electrical system in Mamuju until March 2012 has about 12 MW peak load. It is estimated, nearly 67 percent of electricity needs can be supplied with energy Mamuju water is much cheaper than using gasoline.
Therefore, PLN will continue to develop the utilization of water is widely available in the capital of West Sulawesi province through the development of micro power plants. PLN target in the year 2014, Mamuju electrical system and the surrounding towns can be 100 percent of its electricity supply from non-fuel power plants.
"Actually, just by utilizing the potential of MHP in Mamuju, is sufficient to meet the electricity demand in Mamuju and surrounding cities" said Director of Operations Eastern Indonesia PLN Vickner Mamuju Sinaga while visiting with members of the House of Representatives Commission VII.
Member of House Commission VII Bobby Adhityo Rizaldy declare potential overflow of water in West Sulawesi. "So, should hydroelectric power like this is more optimized, so the company did not rely on fuel," he said.
