INDONESIA-BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) officially opened the BlackBerry Innovation Center at the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), Thursday (04/10/2012).With these centers, RIM will support educational programs, research and training for Indonesian students and application developers (developers).
"BlackBerry Innovation Center is one of our programs to accelerate mobile application development capacity and employment growth in Indonesia," said Hastings Singh, Vice President and Managing Director - South Asia Research In Motion, in a written statement received KompasTekno.
RIM said has worked with more than 50 universities, colleges and schools across Indonesia through a similar initiative through the BlackBerry Academic Program. According to RIM, the program succeeded in providing materials and content to educate students about the development of mobile applications.
BlackBerry Innovation Center will extend collaboration with ITB RIM and BlackBerry Academic Program. RIM supports ITB through investment of 5 million dollars over the next 5 years to support the construction of facilities, staff and operations.
Prof. Dr. Akhmaloka, Rector of ITB said, "We expect the BlackBerry Innovation Center will generate future entrepreneurs and leaders for the mobile computing industry in Indonesia. ITB Students will certainly show their excitement for this program".
As part of the cooperation and ITB RIM BlackBerry Innovation Center to create a focus on mobile application development, every year, 30 outstanding students will receive research fellowships Mobile Computing.
A total of 18 scholarships are awarded to Masters level (S2) and a Graduate to join these centers in the opening, and 12 additional award will be given to final year students talented undergraduate level.
Scholarship recipients for Master (S2) is the Word Azhari, Mohammad Najib, Gradytama Elkanah, Atmaji Rangga Adinugroho, Adi Bhasyudewo Kawi, Mirza Adipradhana, Yohanssen Primary, Gitarja Sandi, Ardhian Ekawijan, Dicky Arinal, Puspoko Poncho Ratno, and Rizky Ario Nugroho. While grantees to Graduate Program is Rahmadian Pamungkas Iqbal, Nurul Oktariani Pratiwi, Susetyo Bagas Bhaskoro, and Nur Iksan.
Scholarship recipients will receive tuition and also benefit from a research allowance for the duration of their studies at the BlackBerry Innovation Center ITB. As long as they are in the BlackBerry Innovation Center, awardees will receive in-depth training on the BlackBerry development environment and prepare them to undertake a research project term of one to three years.
The research project will focus on benefiting the people of Indonesia more broadly, to generate mobile applications for key sectors such as mobile health systems, smart transportation, mobile learning, and e-logistics.
The primary mission of these centers is to develop entrepreneurial skills among students while providing a strong technical education. A number of other exciting initiatives are still in the process that rewards the development of knowledge and providing opportunities for business creation.
