Indonesia was elected as Chairman of the Executive Board of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the period 2013-2014. In the lead institution for the next year, Indonesia was accompanied by representatives of Jamaica and Mozambique.

It was agreed at the General Assembly plenary meeting participant 20th UNWTO in Livingstone, Zambia, Thursday (08/29/2013) evening local time. Indonesia, represented by the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sapta Nirwandar electability welcome this and says it will use its best endeavors to meet the expectations of the trial participants.

After the meeting, Sapta explains, this institution is important in the management of UNWTO. UNWTO programs conducted with the approval of the Executive Council.

According to him, chooses Indonesia is a form of UNWTO recognition of Indonesia's role. In addition, Indonesia still maintain the position as a Member of the Budget Committee and the Ethics Committee of the UNWTO.

As Chairman of the UNWTO Executive Council, said Sapta, Indonesia can use it to express the interests of tourism development such as visa facilitation, marketing assistance, destination cooperation, and even expert advice.

"In addition, Indonesia will be easier to access a variety of information on tourism globally. Finally, it is both a promotion for Indonesia," Sapta said.


Tourism development issues, such as ease of visas, taxes, and connectivity, said Sapta, not only in domestic affairs. UNWTO could be one of the institutions that promote or suppress certain state policies that hinder tourism.

For example, added Sapta, taxation of developed countries for citizens of the country to the outside world can be lowered so that tourism is more passionate. Connectivity and ease of obtaining a visa can also be driven from the cooperation of various parties.
